3 Sided Square
Welcome to 3 Sided Square, the game of finding similarities with simply drawn, single square comics (hey it is the best I can do :D). I hope you enjoy them!
I try to do at least one a week. I am an older Gen X so I actually draw them in pencil, go over them with a thin marker, copy them into a PowerPoint presentation and then make jpegs of the slide using the snipper tool. It takes a while but I really enjoy doing them this way. A big thank you to all the comments, I appreciate the support!
Also a huge thank you to the creator of PizzaCake, https://pizzacakecomic.com/, she is an incredible artist and writer and she encourages others to try, and that gave me the final push to try this.

Here is how the game is played
Each group of 4 comics share themes. The themes can be almost anything.
- 4 On The Floor - all 4 have a common theme
- 3 Sided Square - 3 of the 4 have a stronger theme
- 2 For Tuesday - 2 of the 4 have an even closer theme
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - 1 can stand by itself
Comic 37
And now for the Answers to Comic 37....
- 4 On The Floor - Famous UFO crash sites
- A - Late June, early July 1947 something crashed on Mac Brazel's land. It was called a disk (UFO) at first and then a weather balloon. So he would have collected either way.
- B - December 9th, 1965 an acorn-like object crashed at Kecksburg PA. The Army took it (poor squirrels)
- C - April 17th, 1897 an object crashed and did damage to a farm in Aurora Texas. The pilot supposedly died and was given, according to the newpaper, a Christian burial in the Aurora Cemetery
- D - January 20th, 1996 an object crashed at Varginha, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and people reported seeing a 4 foot creature near the crash
- 3 Sided Square - A, B, D - All happened in the 20th century
- 2 For Tuesday - A, B - These two are still heavily debated if they are real UFOs or mistaken identification (for D, people think that it is more likely the alien encountered was a mentally unstable man, who lived in the area, plus A and B happened in the Northern Hemisphere if you want to be picky)
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - C - Pretty much accepted as a hoax. Historians and the Texas State Historical Association note that Haydon likely invented the tall tale as a publicity stunt to put the dying town back on the map.
Comic 36
And now for the Answers to Comic 36....
- 4 On The Floor - By-Products and Side-Efffects
- A - The by-product of the Spork is the Foon a useless tool that will bury us all!
- B - The by-product of a Hydrogen Fuel Cell car is water vapor. While a Mercury Grand Marquis (I have one of these, and even though gas is killing me I love driving a huge boat, reminds me of cars from the 70's. Like driving a couch) can pump out a ton of CO
- C - A side effect of using apostrophies is that vowels and some consonants lose work (for the W think They Will but as a contraction)
- D - When we breathe we let out some water vapor and carbon dioxide (and corny jokes apparently)
- 3 Sided Square - B, C, D - All deal with real by-products or side-effects. I do not think anyone created a Foon (what would you even use it for)
- 2 For Tuesday - B, D - deal with water vapor
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - A or C - You can make a case for either, A, the Foon does not exist, and for C, apostrophies do not create by-products, but the by-product of using them is that many good letters lose work
Comic 35
And now for the Answers to Comic 35....
- 4 On The Floor - Proverbs
- A - Do not look a gift horse in the mouth.
- B - Idle hands are playthings of the devil
- C - A watched pot never boils (OK I just had a birthday so I am allowed another Dad joke)
- D - A rolling stone gathers no moss
- 3 Sided Square - A, C, D - Liquid is involved. In A there is the sink for spitting, in C it is a pot of hot water, in D a stone is reaching for a cup and the other is drinking
- 2 For Tuesday - A, B - deal with birthdays
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - B - No liquid here (the idle hands do not have any blood dripping)
Comic 34
And now for the Answers to Comic 34....
- 4 On The Floor - Animals and their sounds
- A - Bees buzz by flapping their wings quickly
- B - Spotted Hyenas produce a cackle or giggle that sounds like human laughter (other Hyenas do not)
- C - Earl, a snake, is hiding behind a column and making the motorist think the hissing is from his car, mechanics, you just cannot trust them :D
- D - Howler Monkeys are the LOUDEST land animal. Their calls reach up to 140 decibels, which is as loud as a jet engine taking off. You can hear their call from miles away.
- 3 Sided Square - B, C, D - All deal with animal sounds from the MOUTH
- 2 For Tuesday - B, D - The sounds are unique to that type of animal. Other Hyenas do not laugh, and no other primate makes such a loud noise. Many snakes, on the other hand, hiss
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - A - The buzz from a bee does not come from the mouth, but from their wings beating
Comic 33
And now for the Answers to Comic 33....
- 4 On The Floor - Tidally locked worlds
- A - Our Moon, and Phobos and Deimos (from Mars) are all tidally locked. In fact pretty much all the large, circular moons are tidally locked to their planet.
- B - The big four moons of Jupiter, the Galilean Moons, are all tidally locked.
- C - Trappist 1 is a star in the constellation Aquarius that they believe has 7 planets. Trappist 1e, is the most likely to have life. They believe that all the planets are tidally locked so a sundial would only show one time all day
- D - There are different theories but the most accepted at this point is that early on Earth was hit by a Mars sized planet named Theia and the rubble became our moon. So our moon was not adopted (unlike a lot of moons of Jupiter and Saturn), but what happened to Theia? That is a touchy subject.
- 3 Sided Square - A, B, D - All deal with tidally locked MOONS.
- 2 For Tuesday - A, D - Both involve Earth.
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - C - Trappist 1e is a planet and not a moon (plus we are not completely sure it is tidally locked)
Comic 32
And now for the Answers to Comic 32....
- 4 On The Floor - Swords
- A - Having only one eye will screw around with your depth preception so you really had trouble swordfighting (plus this is the 4th movie of the incredible Planet of the Apes movies. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes was set in the far flung future of 1991).
- B - An easy way to find Orion's Belt in the Constellation is to look for Orion's Sword and follow it up
- C - The pen is NOT mightier than the sword
- D - The Sword of Damocles. Damocles was a suck up to Dionysius II, a powerful 4th-century BC ruler of Syracuse. He would constantly praise the king and his luxurious life, wealth, and authority as the height of happiness. Tired of the flattery, Dionysius offered to swap places with Damocles for a day so he could experience that fortune firsthand. Damocles enjoyed a lavish banquet until he looked up and saw a sharp sword suspended directly over his head by a single horsehair. Terrified that the hair might snap, Damocles immediately lost his appetite and begged to give up his position, realizing that powerful rulers live under constant threat.
- 3 Sided Square - A, B, C - The swords are being used for hunting or fighting
- 2 For Tuesday - A, C - Both are being used for fighting (not hunting)
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - D - The sword is not being used, only threatened to be used.
Comic 31
And now for the Answers to Comic 31....
- 4 On The Floor - Units of Measurements
- A - 12 times 12, 144 is a GROSS
- B - 4 SCORE and 7 years ago is 87 years. A SCORE is 20
- C - This is the movie the Dirty DOZEN (I have never seen it though, and it was based on a group of 13 people during WW2)
- D - 16 and a half feet is a ROD. This is Rod Serling, the creator of the Twilight Zone, a show known for twists in their stories. This is also based a little on my life. My name was going to be David, but my super evil bitch of a paternal grandmother (can you sense some anger), changed my name in the nursery (as told to me by my mother). I think I would have preferred David over my name.
- 3 Sided Square - A, B, C - All deal with still used units of measurement (or at least commonly used)
- 2 For Tuesday - A, C - Both are multiple of 12s, and also are commonly used to denote an amount of items. A Score it mostly used in regards to time (20 years)
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - D - The measurement of a Rod is pretty old and not really used anymore. And in case you are curious, 1 Rod = 1 Pole = 1 Perch, who says the metric system is easier :D
Comic 30
And now for the Answers to Comic 30....
- 4 On The Floor - Stages
- A - The Saturn V rocket got us to the moon in multiple stages. Sadly, some astronauts cannot let anything go :D
- B - The area on a microscope that you place the glass slide on is called the Stage. Also, the play As You Like It has the line (said by Jaques) All the world is a stage,
And all the men and women merely players
- C - Ok another Dad joke (the son is just going through a stage...get it? Ok, I will show myself out), the Junior High 2x4's are acting goofy by making a stage (maybe the 2x4 father is a boomer and cannot handle his theater child, I'm a Gen X, we are so much more accepting, my father, A Silent Gen, hated when I tried to be creative and he was not shy in letting me know)
- D - Arena and Proscenium Arch are types of Stages. An Arena stage is considered the one of the oldest, around 1st Century BCE (so an early Stage) while the Proscenium Arch came to be much later, around 17th Century CE
- 3 Sided Square - B, C, D - All deal with areas (stages) where you would put on a production (ok the stage on a microscope does not usually have shows, but who knows, maybe the bacteria are putting on a show, besides it is called a stage
- 2 For Tuesday - C, D - These deal with physical stages where you would put on a show
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - A - The stage here is referring to a step in a progression (stages of a rocket dropping off)
Comic 29
And now for the Answers to Comic 29....
- 4 On The Floor - Invented by Russians
- A - Tetris was invented by Alexey Pajitnov, a Soviet software engineer, on June 6, 1984
- B - Sputnik, which means fellow traveler or co-traveler on a path, was launched by the Soviet Union on October 4th, 1957, starting the Space Race. It cost 350 million in today's money
- C - Autogyros were the predecessor to the Helicopter. The helicopter was not invented by a single person at one moment, but Igor Sikorsky is widely credited as the inventor of the first practical, mass-produced helicopter. On September 14, 1939, his prototype became the first successful aircraft to use a single main rotor and tail rotor design
- D - The earliest documented inventor and patentee of the monorail was English engineer Henry Robinson Palmer, November 22, 1821, but Ivan Kirillovich Elmanov built an early Russian monorail prototype in 1820 in the village of Myachkovo, near Moscow for hauling cargo.
- 3 Sided Square - B, C, D - All deal with types of transportation
- 2 For Tuesday - C, D - Transportation that people could actually ride on. Maybe no one rode on Elmanov's monorail, but they could have. Sputnik was the size of a beach ball
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - A - Tetris is a great game but not a type of transport (unless you count it transporting you to a realm of fun....yes I am kidding :D)
Comic 28
And now for the Answers to Comic 28....
- 4 On The Floor - Things that go on forever
- A - An 8 on its side is a symbol meaning infinity (OK who here has the tune from Schoolhouse Rock going through their head now...and an 8 on its side is a symbol meaning infinityyyyy...Yes I am OLD)
- B - Pi, which is 22 divided by 7 is 3.14 etc etc etc, it goes on forever
- C - Honey, when stored properly, can last forever. I heard they found honey in an Egyptian tomb and it was still edible
- D - As far as we can tell, space is infinite (I had floor to ceiling mirrors in a house a while back, they really do make you feel like the room is bigger)
- 3 Sided Square - A, B, C - Eights. Now in B, the letter Pi is the eigth letter of the greek alphabet, but bonus if you realized that theta and omega are the 16th and 24th letters, multiples of eight. For C, a B looks like an 8 but for good measure BTV is Channel 8
- 2 For Tuesday - A, B or A, D - You can make a case for both. A has 8s and B has letters that are multiples of 8. A has 8s but one is representing infinity and in D space is infinite
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - C - B is not an 8 plus they are bees, not the letter B
Comic 27
And now for the Answers to Comic 27....
- 4 On The Floor - All have odd numbers
- A - I don't even pretend to understand imaginary numbers, but 9 is too old :D
- B - Contrary to how it looks, 91 is NOT a prime number
- C - I admit it, this one is totally a dad joke, hey I am allowed one at least :)
- D - Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of 13, although in other countries other numbers are considered unlucky such as Japan is 9, Italy is 17, India is 8.
- 3 Sided Square - B, C, D - 7, (the dead guy in C) multiplied by 13 (at the therapist in D) equals 91, the NONPRIME in B
- 2 For Tuesday - C, D - 7 and 13 ARE Prime
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - A - While 9 is odd, it is NOT Prime.
Comic 26
And now for the Answers to Comic 26....
- 4 On The Floor - Fads of the 1950s
- A - The golden age of 3D movies was during the 1950's, starting with Bwana Devil (1952) and House of Wax (1953). With one eye depth perception is pretty much impossible. Extra credit if you know where the name of this one comes from (the third movie of the first Planet of the Apes movies, Escape from the Planet of the Apes)
- B - Telephone booth stuffing was a very quick fad in the 1950's, It started early in 1959 (in South Africa) and died out before the end of the year.
- C - Mr. Potato Head, a popular fad in the 1950's, was the first toy advertised on TV in 1952.
- D - Albert Carter and Abe Bookman invented the Magic 8 Ball. It originally started as s tube and was turned into an 8 ball for Brunswick Billiards promotion in 1950.
- 3 Sided Square - A, C, D - Even though all three were big in the 1950's they were all invented BEFORE the 1950's. 3D films were invented around the 1890's, the precursor to the Magic 8 Ball was invented in 1946, and Mr. Potato Head was invented by George Lerner in 1949 (and released officially in May 1952)
- 2 For Tuesday - C, D - Both deal with toys of the 1950 fads
- 1 Is The Loneliest Number - B - Telephone booth stuffing is the only one that started (and also ended) in the 1950's. Telephone stuffing changed to things like VW Beetle stuffing
